Wait a While, the third-place finisher in the US$2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita Park, this week tested positive for procaine, a Class III drug.
According to the California Horse Racing Board, the minimum penalty for a Class III drug is a 30-day suspension "absent mitigating factors". The penalty also includes disqualification of the horse and loss of purse.
The Todd Pletcher-trained horse earned a purse of US$213,000 at the 2008 Breeders' Cup. A hearing has been scheduled for December 14th to determine whether or not she will be disqualified from her third-place finish and stripped of her purse.
Wait a While's career earnings total more than US$2 million.
