It looked for a little while like the Game Show Network (GSN) would become devoid of all poker programming just a year after adding the World Poker Tour to their lineup. GSN opted not to pick up their option to broadcast the WPT going forward and had been putting off renewing the renewal of their option for the popular cash game poker TV show High Stakes Poker. Well, now the WPT has moved on and relocated to Fox Sports Net, but GSN decided to keep going with HSP.
HSP was one of the highest rated shows on GSN for the past four seasons, but attracted an older demographic than they would have liked, leading to the hesitance of picking up the option. However, executives decided to give the show one more season, which will once again feature co-hosts Gabe Kaplan and AJ Benza, and see if they can skew the demo to a younger audience to fit in with the networks goals.
The very sparse statement from GSN didn't contain a whole lot of helpful details, except that filming for the new season will begin in September.
