By this morning the WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic was down to 17 players and Bodog Poker pro David Williams was one of those players. What started with 259 players last Friday kicked off earlier today with several well-known pros still in the running and a $731,079 first-place prize up for grabs.
Among the pros still in contention were Amnon Filippi, Allen Kessler, Barry Greenstein, Lee Markholt and Williams. Williams entered the day in 13th place with a chip stack of 258,500 and immediately started looking for action but couldn't get any takers when he woke up with aces and then ran into Kessler's jacks and couldn't get an ace to help his A-10, doubling up Kessler.
Not much later, Williams got all his chips in the middle for his tournament life, once again against Kessler, and this is how the WPT Live Update crew reported the action:
David Williams moves all in from early position for 52,500, Vadim Trincher calls from middle position, Lee Markholt calls from the small blind, and Tony Gargano calls from the big blind.
The flop comes K
4
3
, Markholt and Gargano both check, Trincher bets 60,000 into the dry sidepot, and Markholt and Gargano both fold. Williams shows 6

, but he'll need to improve to survive against Trincher's 10

.
The turn is the 2
, the river is the 8
, and Trincher wins the pot with his pocket tens.
Williams busted out in 15th to take home $34,117 and the adulation of his many followers on Twitter (@dwpoker). Play was only going to continue until the field was narrowed to ten remaining players, and that has been accomplished. Leading the way when play resumes tomorrow will be Lenny Cortellino, followed by Filippi and Markholt, with Kessler still alive thanks to DW's chips.
