As we wrote about last week, Australian cricketer Shane Warne has taken up poker since his retirement from international cricket. It seems that over the past few weeks, Warne's interest in poker has reached a new level and cemented into a sponsorship deal with an online poker room and plans to play in major poker tournaments including the 2008 WSOP.

Unfortunately for Hampshire, his current cricket club, this also means that they just found out that their captain won't be available to play for them at the start of their next season. We're not really sure how cricket works, at all, but we know for a fact that if we didn't show up to our job for a few days, we would no longer have a job. However, apparently the Hampshire skipper seems to think this is normal behavior.

Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove said: "We're confident he will be back, but we'll have to start the season with someone different. I'll chat with Shane and work out a sensible cricket program for both of us." You get the feeling that this "chat," will be a little uncomfortable for Mr. Warne?

Notice he said a "cricket program," not a "poker program." Anyway, to brush up on his live tournament skills, Warne is playing in the 2008 Aussie Millions where he found himself on a five-minute penalty for sending a text message at the table.

When will he learn that no good can come from him sending text messages? You see, Warne got is some seriously deep shit previously when he sent a text to his wife… accidentally, thinking he was sending it to the girl he was "leg-spinning" at the time. He has also been accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a multitude of other females during the past few years. Ah, the wild life of international cricket.
