Danish Poker Player Casper Hansen Wins WPT Spanish Championship

In one of the most under-the-radar major poker tournaments in recent memory (seriously, preparation for the WSOP completely overshadowed any mention of this tourney until the winner was announced), the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship in Barcelona crowned the first WPT champion for Season VII, Danish poker player Casper Hansen.
While not drawing the large crowds that the WPT enjoys in other locales, the 235-player field contained several well-known European and international poker pros, including local hero Carlos Mortensen, WSOP Europe champion Annette "Annette_15″ Obrestad, Juha Helppi, the WPT-Made Millionaire Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari and Patrik Antonius. However, in what seems like a recurring theme for major tournaments this year, none of them made the final table. We really, really hope that this trend does not continue into the WSOP…
Anyway, we did notice that one of Team Bodog's qualifiers for the 2008 WSOP Main Event, Atanus Gueorguiev, managed to battle his way through to the final table of this event, finishing in a very respectable 8th place for $59,083. You may remember, let's just call him Mr. G, from our coverage of the WSOP Europe. He also qualified for that VIP experience in London and it looks like his live game is starting to match his online game. So, watch out Vegas, we know he's already got a ticket to the Main Event.
Here are the full final table results from the WPT Spanish Championship:
1. Casper Hansen - $655,720
2. Stefan Mattsson - $346,621
3. Thiago Nishijima - $176,934
4. Andres Vidal - $137,703
5. Guy Sitbon - $118,166
6. Martin Lundenius - $98,157
7. Erik Friberg - $78,777
8. - $59,083
9. Nordine Bouya - $39,468
The next WPT event on the schedule, Bellagio Cup IV, will not be slipping under anyone's radar as it takes place where all of the poker world's focus will be this summer, Las Vegas. Team Bodog had a couple of big prelim event wins last year from David Williams and Johnathan "UFPOkerStar" Westra and we expect to see more of the same again this time around.
