With the Main Event underway and many contenders already eliminated, it has become mathematically impossible (there's a lot of math going on this morning) for the top of the 2008 WSOP Player of the Year rankings to change. So, that means that poker pro Erick Lindgren has sealed up the 2008 WSOP Player of the Year honors.

It's been a hell of a run for Lindgren this year. On top of cashing five times for a total of $1,348,528, he also shook the monkey off his back by winning his first WSOP bracelet, losing the moniker of "Best Poker Player Never to Win a Bracelet." The win came in the $5,000 No Limit Holdem event and netted him $374,505. However, this wasn't his biggest and best accomplishment this year. That came when he placed third in the $50,000 HORSE event, the toughest test of a poker player, earning $781,440 for his efforts.

Lindgren is still alive in the 2008 WSOP Main Event and is playing today for Day 2A. He is currently in the top 30 chip counts and a deep run here would definitely cap off an amazing WSOP for him. Stay tuned to the Beat for updates on his status and all of your WSOP live updates.
