The last "regular season" event of Season 7 of the World Poker Tour is almost over as the final table of the WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic is now underway and a new champion close to being crowned.

There is one name that stands above all at this final table and that is Amnon Filippi. This is the second WPT final table for Filippi this season – the first was at the WPT Bellagio Cup – and puts him squarely in the running for WPT Player of the Year honors. Filippi enters the final table second in chips and will be looking to add the $731,079 first-place prize to his already impressive $2.1 million career poker tournament earnings.

The full chip counts look like this:

1. Vadim Trincher – 2,813,000
2. Amnon Filippi – 1,852,000
3. Matthew Casterella – 1,808,000
4. Lenny Cortellino – 1,175,000
5. Alex Perelberg – 200,000

Normally, there are six players at a televised WPT final table, however there was a double elimination with seven players remaining last night leaving only five. Here's how the WPT Live Updates crew reported it:

Hand #126 – Vadim Trincher raises under the gun to 60,000, William Botchis tanks in late position before he moves all in. Joe Raposa says "Oh no," and gets out of his seat in the cutoff. "Oh man." Raposa moves all in over the top of Botchis.

It's folded back to Trincher, who insta-calls with AdiamondAspade. Raposa shows JclubJspade, and Botchis shows 9club9diamond. The two shorter stacks will need to improve, or they face a double-elimination on the TV bubble.

The board comes 8diamond7heart5heart2spade7club, and Trincher wins the pot with his pocket aces.

William Botchis, as the short stack, is eliminated in seventh place, earning $68,235.

Joe Raposa is eliminated in sixth place, earning $85,292.

So, the five final tablists will return to the WPT TV set at Foxwoods at 7pm ET tonight to grind it out for their share of the prize pool. If you want to head to a WPT event yourself, then qualify online for the WPT with a $12,000 Bodog Flight Club package.
