Over the past few days the Commerce Casino has been playing host to people who were cool enough to get invited to play in the WPT Celebrity Invitational. All in all, 433 people made the cut and turned out to compete for their share of the $200,000 prizepool and coming out on top was poker pro Freddy Deeb, who gets $100,000 for his efforts.
Although, how much effort does it take to beat out a field mostly full of drunk D-list (ok, maybe C-list with some B thrown in and a couple of A) celebrities and poker pros? Just sayin'.
Anyway, spotted out in the field were Mekhi Phifer, Danny Masterson, Shanna Moakler, Tia Carrere, Jose Canseco, Ricki Lake, William Hung, Doug Benson, Lou Diamond Philips, Ray Romano, Brad Garrett and Don Cheadle along with some poker bloggers of dubious talent (since they buted out so quickly) and a number of poker pros, including Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Hoyt Corkins, Humberto Brenes, Eli Elezra, Gavin Smith and a whole bunch more.
Deeb wound up at the final table with one of those pros, Scott Clements, and a bunch of people that we might recognize from that one show like three years ago that may have been on CBS, or possibly FOX, and might now have reruns on PAX. Unfortunately, the real characters – Ali Nejad and Teddy "Iceman" Monroe – bubbled the final table.
The WPT trucks won't have to go far for their next stop as the parade heads north to San Jose for the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star on March 16. After that it's onto Foxwoods and the the WPT Championship in April. You can qualify online for the WPT through Bodog Poker's Flight Club promotion, so get started now.
