After a marathon heads-up match in Event No. 29 – $3,000 No Limit Hold'em – at the 2008 WSOP that lasted over six hours, opponents John Phan and Johnny Neckar decided to try and speed things up in an unorthodox manner, by going all-in in the dark and exposing their hole cards one at a time after the river had been dealt.
The bracelet on the line did not seem to deter the two from their 11th hour bout of madness. However, Neckar winning two out of the three matches did seem to remove the blinders from Phan's eyes. Unfortunately for Neckar, this was probably not the best thing to have happen as just two hands later and Neckar found himself on the losing end of the battle.
This is the first WSOP bracelet win for Phan and he cashes $434,789 for this accomplishment. Neckar will have to make a nice pillow for himself tonight out of the $277,452 he won. Poor boy.
In other WSOP news, Team Bodog poker player Justin Bonomo is still alive in Event 33 – $5,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low World Championship – with 168 players left out of 261. With only about 90 minutes left until the end of the night, he should be headed back to the Amazon Room tomorrow.
