Just before midnight last night poker pro John Phan become the first player at the 2008 WSOP to win multiple bracelets when he took down Event No. 40 – $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw – and the $151,896 first-place prize.
Phan won his first bracelet exactly one week ago in Event No. 29 – $3,000 No Limit Holdem - besting a field of 716 players to emerge victorious. In this event he took on a much smaller but more stacked field of 238 players to eventually walk away with the bracelet, beating out a final table that contained poker pro Robert Mizrachi and poker/forum thread author David Sklansky. "The Razor" entered the final table as the chip leader but at times fell victim to his own aggressive play and was actually severely short-stacked at one point during three-handed play before storming back.
The two bracelets and the $586,700 in total winnings so far at the 2008 World Series of Poker have put Phan third on the 2008 WSOP Player of the Year standings, behind David Benyamine and Jacobo Fernandez (?).
Stay tuned for more live updates from the 2008 WSOP as we've got the daddy of all poker tournaments going on today, the $50,000 HORSE event.
