Motley Crue's Vince Neil held his now annual Off the Strip Poker Tournament to benefit the Skylar Neil Memorial Fund and the T.J. Martell Foundation a couple of weeks ago, but we just came across this video of him talking about it a few minutes ago. This year's edition raised over $175,000 for the two charities as well as increasing awareness for the causes.
The event pulled in some big names from the world of poker including Liz Lieu, Chip and Karina Jett, Bodog poker pro David Williams, Lee Watkinson, Phil Gordon, Todd Brunson, Hoyt Corkins, and Layne Flack. Popular World Series of Poker tournament director Matt Savage called the action from the floor of the $550 buy-in event (with rebuys and add-ons) where every one of the 150-maximum seats was filled.
There was said to have been 173 rebuys and 102 add-on, which juiced the pot and helped to boost the amount raised.Greg Severson from California won the $20,000 first-place prize with the top ten finishers getting paid out from the prizepool, even though most of the funds were then donated directly back to the charities.
Even though this type of event pops up every five minutes, they are usually for a very good cause and worth talking about, including this one. The Skylar Neil Memorial Fund was formed in 1995 after the death of Neil's four-year old daughter Skylar due to a battle with stomach cancer. The foundation helps fund research for leukemia, cancer and AIDS. T.J. Martell's last wish was to raise a million dollars for leukemia research and upon his death from leukemia in 1975, Martell's father started the organization and has since raised more than $225 million.
