Online poker is not losing its appeal. Some industry watchdogs have been trying to ring alarm bells that online poker is slowing down. The reality is that online poker was on a small summer vacation. Numbers for June, July, and August were showing some decline, but September numbers surged back, and have risen as much as 42% on PokerStars, the biggest online poker room.

Summer is naturally a time where people do more active things. They tend to get out and do other activities, leaving less time for computer hobbies like poker. Students represent a good percentage of online players, and now they’re back in school and playing like they did before summer break.

Online poker markets in Europe and Asia continue to grow, and the game is more popular than it ever has been. People still love to play poker online; they were just enjoying the summer months elsewhere.
