Prostitution Arrests Shut Down Sapphire Pool at Rio Hotel, Home to WSOP
![]() |
We are (not at all) shocked to learn that the Sapphire Pool at the Rio Las Vegas, the site of the 2009 WSOP, was shut down last week after allegations of a prostitution ring surfaced.
The Rio's secluded pool is sponsored by the Sapphire Gentlemen's Club and is insinuated to be stocked with topless Sapphire Girls; however, as we found out last year, that is never the case. Attendants of the 2009 WSOP may recall being offered "free" drink tickets (one drink was free, cover to get in was like $40) by the lovely (working) girls in the hallway outside the Amazon Room, the insinuation being that they would be joining you at the pool at any moment. Yeh, no.
We're sure that you, too, are (not) surprised to learn that those classy ladies were pushing more than free drinks. Nothing like workers with a little added motivation to get you to the pool, and drunk and gullible poker fans to provide the fodder.
The Sapphire Pool and it's sponsored Gentlemen's Club is in our thoughts as they try to bounce back from this devasting(ly obvious) blow to their reputation. The blow to their reputation comes from the rather rough mug shots posted of those involved, nothing like seeing a stripper in the daylight.

That is a picture of Voodoo Beach, not the Sapphire Pool.
