In a very odd, and ominous, mathematical confluence, the number of places that will be paid out at the 2008 WSOP is 666, the number of the beast. In that same vein, the sacrifices that will be going on tonight will be the players as they are eliminated one by one as the starting field of 1,250 for Day 2A narrows down. (It's a bad joke, but last night was a long night….give us a break)

In total, 6,844 players enetered the 2008 WSOP, generating a total prizepool of $64,333,600 with $9,119,517 going to first place. As we reported on Day 1D, this Main Event has officially become the second-largest in history exceeded only by the monster 8,773-player field that came out for the 2006 WSOP Main Event. Logic follows that this will also be the second-largest first-place prize ever awarded for a Main Event, the largest being the $12 million that was awarded to Jamie Gold in 2006.

Already the cries of "all in and a call" are echoing through the Amazon Room, which means the sacrifices have begun and we are once again on our way to finding the 2008 WSOP Main Event champion. Stay tuned for more WSOP live updates from the Bodog Beat.
