Sebastian Ruthenberg Defeats Chris Ferguson to Win First WSOP Bracelet

Last night saw yet another stacked final table at the 2008 WSOP, but this time it was the turn of the amateur to emerge victorious. Young German poker pro Sebastian Ruthenberg took down Event No. 33 - $5,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low World Championship - to win his first WSOP bracelet and the $328,756 first-place prize.
it was no easy road as Ruthenberg had to outlast a final table that included Annie Duke, Marcel Luske and Steve Sung, not to mention the pros that just barely missed out, including Howard Lederer, David Benyamine, Allen Cunningham and Barry Greenstein. However, the most testing part of his day was the heads-up battle against five-time WSOP bracelet winner Chris "Jesus" Ferguson.
Ruthenberg entered the heads-up match a 2 to 1 dog to an accomplished heads-up player who has finished second twice (2005 and 2006) and this year won the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship. The German managed to rally much to the delight of his railers, who were also riding a high after watching Germany defeat Portugal in the Quarterfinals of Euro 2008.
Elsewhere in the Amazon Room, Erick Lindgren is among the chip leaders going into Day 2 of Event 33 - $5,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low World Championship. Ted Forrest, Dario Alioto and Layne Flack are all at the final table of Event 34 - $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha w/Rebuys.
