It isn’t easy out there but the Bodog WSOP online qualifiers held their own against one of the toughest poker tournaments around. The field of 6,844 has been chopped down to almost half with 3,629 going into Day2.
Eighty Bodog players were spread across the four Day 1’s and of those original 80 there are 39 survivors. Leading the pack is Bodog poker pro and Guitar Hero prodigy Evelyn Ng. Ng stormed through Day 1c and ended up among the few players with more than 100,000. Could this be the year of Evey Baby? We’ll get a better idea after Evey plays on Wednesday on Day 2B.
Up next is Svetlana Gromenkova with 94,125. Svetlana is running hot this year having just won her first bracelet when she took down the Ladies event. Keep your eye on here as she heads into Day 2A tomorrow.
Anthony Smith is coming into Day 2A with 92,550. Smith is a very successful online poker player who is not only smart and effective but charmed in the way a good poker player should be. Since arriving in Vegas he has accumulated almost 100,000 in chips in the WSOP and last we heard won $13,000 at the Blackjack tables. You can often find Smith playing poker on Bodog under his screen name tsmizzle.
Other notable players include Jean-Robert Bellande who just came off a second place finish in the $1,500 Limit Holdem prelim event. Bellande is looking strong with 70,700 going into Day 2B. Magnus Petersson won the EPT Copenhagen last year after taking Bertrand Grospellier down in a heads-up battle. Petersson has 57,550 going into Day 2A. Matt Parvis, editor of Bluff Magazine is limping into Day 2B with 8,550. Chip and a chair Matt. Chip and a chair.
And also there is Bodog poker pro David Williams’ mother Shirley Williams. Although Shirley is short-stacked with 8,200 she has earned the distinction of outlasting her son for three years in a row at the WSOP Main Event. Last year Shirley made the money. Here’s to her doubling up and coming out swinging once again this year.
Here is the complete list of Team Bodog players going on to day 2 with their chip stacks and their respective. Good luck players, we at the Beat are rooting for you.
