Nobody said the WSOP was easy. Just ask David Pham (aka the Dragon) as he just busted out while holding pocket aces.
The beginning of the end for Pham's WSOP tournament life came when Tony Gagliandi limped in from late position for 200 and Pham, in the small blind, bumped it up to 700. The big blind called as did Galiandi.
The flop came Jh-9c-4d and it was checked around to Gagliandi who min bet 200. Pham check-raised to 1,000. The big blind folded and Gagliandi called.
While the dealer was preparing to drop the turn card, Pham pushed all-in for just over 2,000 more. When Gagliandi saw the 9d on the turn he insta-called to show 4h-4s for a boat of fours full of nines. Pham showed his bullets and was looking for an ace on the river. The 6h came however and the Dragon was sent packing.
That's the WSOP for you. Some say aces are a curse on Day 1. Some people are also pretty stupid. We'll take bullets any day of the week.
