WSOP Distractions at The Beauty Bar Las Vegas

As we've mentioned before, we love Downtown Las Vegas and Fremont Street, so it should follow that our new favorite place to hang while in Vegas for the 2008 WSOP is down in that area. The Beauty Bar is just past the end of the neon section of Fremont Street just as the area starts to go metaphorically downhill and serves cheap drinks and plays good music.
The concept is simple, if not a wee bit contrived as it is borrowed from the concept for the original one, in that the bar is made to look like a converted beauty salon, much like the original was in NYC 13 years ago. All duplication aside, the space is really cool and if you like paying $14 for two 24 oz. Pabst Blue Ribbon ($2.50 each), two Coronas and a rum and coke, then this is your place. We were pretty sure that prices like that didn't exist in Vegas no matter how bad the neighborhood.
Throw in some decent indie music (we heard Interpol, Ratatat and Bloc Party, plus a bunch of other stuff) and you get a really cool vibe in which to just relax and try to pretend that you haven't been living in a hotel for the last month (we kid, we kid, we do this because we love you).
Stay tuned for many more suggestions on things to do while in Vegas for the 2008 WSOP and maybe something about poker, too.
