Day 1 of the 2008 WSOP Europe HORSE event shared space yesterday with Event No. 1 - ₤1,500 No Limit Holdem - at the Empire Casino, but today this star-studded event has the tournament floor to itself. Leading the way out of the first day of competition, emerging out of the starting field of 110, was poker pro and multiple WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey.
However, Ivey is not the only big name poker pro on the leaderboard, there are many, many other noted players among the 56 players remaining. In fact, one of the biggest, and a fellow Phil, is sitting right behind Ivey, Phil Hellmuth. Scanning the rest of the leaderboard is like reading a list of who's who in the poker world and includes Isaac Haxton, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Patrik Antonius, Bodog poker pros David Williams and Jean-Robert Bellande, Max Pescatori and a whole lot more.
Play is already underway and will continue until a final table of nine players is set. The ₤1,500 buy-in event generated a ₤275,000 prize pool and will pay out ₤76,999 to first place.
