Everyone starts the NFL season with a full bankroll but few have any left at the end. Follow these 10 tips to give yourself better odds to be one of them . . .

Know the market inside and out.

Avoid traps early in the season. Playoff teams from the prior year and in particular, home playoff teams, are overvalued in Week 1 NFL games.

Ignore preseason stats. You should know that one by now.

Look long and hard at road teams first when handicapping the opening week.

Like home teams, favorites and particularly mid-range favorites are generally overvalued in Week 1.

You have to remember that oddsmakers cater NFL lines to match public perception and also to bait the public into poor bets.

Think about the over early in the season before the weather starts to change.

Follow trends and do your homework.

Do not bet with your heart.
