Adam Archuleta Signs With Raiders
By returning to his old position, Adam Archuleta hopes to breath new life into his career.
In a move that adds big time depth to the Raider defense, Oakland signed former Ram, Redskin and Bear Adam Archuleta to a one-year deal on Monday. Archuleta has been a safety in the NFL but played linebacker in college at Arizona State, and will try to make the Raiders as an OLB this season. He could also contend for a spot as a backup safety or for the starting strong side linebacker job in Oakland.
A first-round pick in 2001, Archuleta's career has gone downhill since signing as a free agent with Washington in 2006. He received the largest contract given to a safety, $30 million for six years, with a $10 million bonus. But he ended up starting only seven games and played mostly on special teams before being traded the following year to Chicago for a sixth-round draft pick.
