In baseball action on Sunday afternoon the Toronto Blue Jays wrapped up the pre-All-Star break portion of their season on a good note thanks in part to some excellent pitching from an ironic source.

A.J. Burnett pitched eight innings before giving up a run and finished the contest with eight strikeouts and just one walk before calling it a day after 8.1 innings of work.

Burnett who finds himself in the midst of a flurry of trade rumors certainly helped his stock as he picked up his 10th win of the season.

A four-run second inning gave the Jays all the runs they would need to defeat the New York Yankees 4-1, giving them their fifth win in six games.

Also in the American League East, the Boston Red Sox defeated a struggling Baltimore Orioles club 2-1, giving them the lead in the division over the slumping Tampa Bay Rays.

In a Milwaukee Brewers matchup with the Cincinnati Reds, starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia drove in his second home run of the season to go along with nine strikeouts in the complete game win.

The Atlanta Braves enjoyed their biggest victory of the seasons as they took down the San Diego Padres 12-1 in a game that saw eight players drive in runs.

Catcher Brian McCann led the pack with three.
