The No. 2-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide overtook the Mississippi Rebels in a hard-fought 24-20 tilt on Saturday, far too close for comfort for one of the nation's elite football programs.

After jumping out to a 24-3 start after two quarters, the Crimson Tide seemed to let up as Ole Miss narrowed the gap over the course of the third and fourth.

Leading the way for the victors was quarterback John Parker Wilson launching a pair of touchdowns a season-high 219 throwing yards.

Elsewhere on the college slate, No. 3-ranked Penn State steamrolled Michigan 46-17, No. 4-ranked Oklahoma took down nationally-ranked Kansas 45-31, USC destroyed Washington 69-0 and unranked Maryland took down No. 21-ranked Wake Forest 26-0.

Currently underway on ABC is a heavyweight match up between No. 1 ranked Texas and No. 11-ranked Missouri.
