WBA welterweight champ Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25 KOs) will take on reality-show competitor Alfonso Gomez (18-3-2, 8 KOs) on April 12 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Gomez, who ended up ranked third out of 16 fighters on The Contender earned his shot at Cotto and the world championship by beating Arturo Gatti (49-9, 31 KOs) by seventh-round TKO in July 2007 then beating Ben Tackie (29-9. 17 KOs) by decision in October.

Cotto is currently the -1,000 favorite to win in the Bodog Sportsbook, while Gomez is a +575 underdog.

The fight between Cotto and Gomez will co-headline a card alongside a second welterweight title match as IBF champion Kermit Cintron (29-1, 26 KO's) defends his belt against challenger Antonio Margarito (41-5, 25 KO's).

"I’m going to be 100 percent ready for this fight; this is my chance to shine," Gomez said at a recent press conference. "I know Miguel Cotto is a great champion, he’s strong, he hits tremendously to the body and he comes to win but I come to win too and I couldn’t be more excited."

"I don’t care if I’m the favorite fighter in the fight or not," Cotto replied. "I’m always prepared for the fight. I hope Alfonso comes in good for this fight because I’m coming in more than 100%."

Bet on Cotto vs. Gomez or Cintron vs. Margarito in the Bodog Sportsbook.
