An explosive eighth inning vaulted the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the New York Yankees Saturday when a Vladimir Guerrero solo home run paved the way for an eight-point rally.

The 11-4 win is the second in a row for the Angels over the Yankees as they sit 30 games above .500 and in first in the American League West.

The Angels also enjoyed home runs from newly-acquired Mark Teixeira and Mike Napoli.

Elsewhere in major league action the New York Mets relied on a pair of Carloses to push them past the Florida Marlins by a score of 8-6.

Both Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran homered in the victory while left-handed relief man Scott Schoeneweis picked up the win despite pitching only a third of an inning.

In Baltimore a four-man pitching rotation combined for a five-hit shutout against the Texas Rangers while starter Daniel Cabrera recorded the 9-0 win.

Right-handed Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets went the distance in a 6-0 shutout victory over the Washington Nationals.
