For the first time in 36 years, a Chicago Cubs pitcher tossed a no-hitter on Sunday, and the club can thank Carlos Zambrano for accomplishing the feat.
Zambrano, who made his first start since the beginning of the month, missed his last opportunity when he felt discomfort in his throwing shoulder but struck out 10 tonight.
Considering the performance, Major League Baseball's second no no of the year, the Cubs took an easy 5-0 victory over the Houston Astros.
Additionally, the Philadelphia Phillies grabbed a share of the National League Wild Card lead when they completed a sweep of their main competitor, the Milwaukee Brewers.
Starting pitcher Brett Myers through a complete game, two-hitter en route to his seventh win since a mid-season recall from the minors.
Prince Fielder homered in the seventh inning but it was not enough to over come an early deficit, unfortunate for Milwaukee considering they now find themselves on the rough end of 11 of their last 14 games.
With the victory over the Brewers and a New York Mets loss to the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies also claw within one game of the NL East lead as well.
