The Barclays Classic at Liberty National Golf Club, the opening event of the PGA Tour's four-tournament FedExCup playoff series, starts on Thursday.

Last year, with Tiger Woods sidelined by knee surgery, Vijay Singh beat Sergio Garcia and Kevin Sutherland at The Barclays and went on to win the FedExCup.

This year Woods is the favorite to win, listed at +162.5 heading into the first round.

Woods is making his first appearance in the event since tying for 13th in 2003 at Westchester Country Club. He leads the tour with five victories, $7,688,163, and 3,431 FedExCup points.

Padraig Harrington is listed at +2000, and Phil Mickelson is next at +2500 to win.

Paul Casey has pulled out of this week's tourney in New Jersey because of a lingering rib injury. The world No. 3 also withdrew from the PGA Championship earlier this month after failing to recover from the same injury.
