Big 12 Tournament: Texas A&M Aggies Need to Impress

The Big 12 Tournament kicks off today and, according to ESPN.com's Bubble Watch, one team must impress the selection committee if it wishes to play in the NCAA tournament: "The Aggies' inconsistency has been staggering. Though Kansas routed them to close the regular season, winning in Waco might be a season-saver — but they very well might have to win their quarterfinal game against No. 3 Kansas State."
Of course, Texas A&M (22-9, 8-8) must first get through Iowa State (14-17, 4-12) tonight at 9:30 PM ET. The Aggies are 10.5-point favorites and easily beat the Cyclones, 69-51, in their only meeting this season on Feb. 5.
“We want to go up [to Kansas City] and play well and win a game or two. We’ve never done that in our history,” said Aggies coach Mark Turgeon. “[The Iowa State game] is huge, but we’re trying not to put too much on it, because we don’t want our kids to play tight. We’ve taken the mindset that we’re going to go up there and try to win the whole tournament and be loose and play hard.”
