Carlos Tevez was summoned off the bench by Sir Alex Ferguson and emerged a Champions League hero, scoring the goal that drew Manchester United level with Lyon in France. The 1-1 draw was essentially a win for the English club, who, with the all-imporant away goal, can now take the home-and-away with the French club with a nin-nil result back on home soil.

Tevez scored on a scramble around the Lyon net just three minutes away from time to match Karim Benzema's marker early in the second half.

The match also marked Ryan Giggs' 100th European appearance.

In other Champions League action, Arsenal was held to a goalless draw at home to AC Milan.

Arsenal had horrible finishing today, and that's all that saved Milan from 2-0 or more. The midfield play belonged to the Gunners, and the young guns made Milan look old and tired. The return leg in Milan ought to be a bit more of an attacking performance from AC Milan, and maybe we'll see an Arsenal player with at least some desire to score a goal.
