China, USA Lead 2008 Summer Olympic Medal Count

After winning the gold medal in the individual saber competition, China's Man Zhong helped boost China's gold medal count, putting them in the top position with 13 total gold medals. Team U.S.A is trailing in second place with seven gold medals. China's men’s gymnastics team won the gold Monday night. Japan won silver, while the U.S. won bronze. China has won three silver medals and four bronze medals to give them a medal count of 20 thus far. However, U.S.A leads with the total medal count with 22 medals, while China is in second place with 20 medals in total. NBC has the full 2008 summer Olympic medal count chart.

Team U.S.A's Michael Phelps won his third gold medal Monday night, setting a world record and Olympic record in the 400-meter individual medley in 4 minutes, 3.84 seconds.
