In an effort to shake up a team that's five games under .500 and in the basement of the National League's Central Division, the Cincinnati Reds have called up stud prospect Jay Bruce, the 12th overall pick in the 2005 Draft.
Bruce was batting .364 with AAA-Louisville with 10 homers before being called up Tuesday afternoon. To make room for Bruce, the Reds designated 1B Scott Hatteberg, effectively ending his time in a Cincinnati uniform.
Tonight, Cincinnati and Bruce take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Johnny Cueto will be pitching for the Reds (-1.5, +155) while the Pirates will counter with Ian Snell (+1.5, -175).

Here's the thing about Bruce. His OBP is not too much higher than his BA… which makes me worry about how he's going to translate into the majors. You see a .390 OBP and know that .360+ of that came from hitting and you've gotta be questioning his eye for balls and strikes.
In relation to other hot bats like, Ryan Braun (who took the league by storm last year), Bruce isn't too far off in the hitting department, but his low OBP is something that needs some condieration going forward.
