Ranking college basketball’s biggest disappointments of the year:

5. Connecticut

In fairness, head coach Jim Calhoun has struggled with health issues, but that doesn’t change the fact UConn finished 17-14—and just 7-11 in the Big East.

4. Texas

The Longhorns raced to a promising 17-0 start but, since then, they’ve gone just 6-8. The tailspin was enough to sink Texas to sixth in the Big 12.

3. North Carolina

Yes, UNC is young, but a 16-15 record after being ranked sixth in preseason polls is just embarrassing.

2. Oklahoma

Oklahoma lost Blake Griffin to the NBA last year but ranked 17th in preseason polls. The result? A horrendous 13-17 record and almost dead last in the Big 12.

1. Top-ranked teams

Teams have struggled to hold onto the No. 1 ranking in the country this season. Syracuse, Kentucky, Texas and Kansas (three times!) have all taken turns holding down the top spot.
