The Indiana Hoosiers got a scare when they lost their outstanding freshman to injury. Then they nearly blew the game.

D.J. White made up for the loss of Eric Gordon by scoring a career-high 29 points as the No. 15 Hoosiers outlasted Tennessee State, 84-72, in Bloomington, Ind.

Indiana failed to cover the point spread, which was 26.5, in the only Top 25 college basketball game played on Monday night.

Gordon landed on his back midway through the first half and had to depart for X-rays. Coach Kelvin Sampson said Gordon, who is second in the nation in scoring with an average of 26.6 points, will probably be able to play in Indiana’s next game on Saturday.

Before Gordon was hurt, the Hoosiers led by 19 points. He scored eight points in 12 minutes of play. With him out, Tennessee State cut the lead to seven points before White, who also had 13 rebounds, poured it on.

"I had to step up. Our leading scorer, our playmaker got hurt, and we all knew we had to step up and play," White said.
