We don’t have to look long for this year’s Cinderella.

The Drake Bulldogs are poised to crash the Big Dance and could do it as soon as Sunday. The Bulldogs are the most unlikely team to hold down a top 25 ranking and continued their extraordinary play in the Missouri Valley Counference this season by whipping Indiana State, 68-46, on Friday night in St. Louis. That quarterfinal win in the mid-major’s postseason tournament means No. 20 Drake could lock up its first March Madness berth in 37 years with two more victories.

The Bulldogs covered the point spread, which favored them by 10 in St. Louis.

The Des Moines-based school has already set numerous school milestones this season, including being ranked No. 1 in the MVC tournament for the first time. Drake (26-4) dispatched Indiana State, ranked eighth in the tourney, with a solid effort from its unheralded cast.

Leonard Houston had a team-high 16 points, Adam Emmenecker recorded his first career double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Josh Young added 11 points. Drake tied the school record for wins in a season.

Drake plays Creighton in Saturday’s semifinals.
