Maybe the Memphis Tigers should think about relocating to New York.
The winners of the 2K Sports Classic claimed another victory at Madison Square Garden, defeating a valiant USC squad 62-58 in overtime in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday night. However, the third-ranked Tigers failed to cover the point spread, which favored them by nine.
In a matchup touted as a duel between two of the nation’s top freshmen, O.J. Mayo and Derrick Rose both struggled. Mayo, the Trojans’ quick and powerful guard, did lead his team with 16 points but he had a miserable shooting night, missing seven shots in a row at one point and finishing 6-for-19 from the field. Rose, the Memphis point guard, put up nine points and 10 rebounds, but he also had five turnovers and was only 3-for-9 shooting. He did make the free throws in overtime that sealed the win for John Calipari’s squad.
Memphis improved to 7-0 while No. 24 USC dropped to 6-3.
Robert Dozier led the Tigers with 13 points and Chris Douglas-Roberts added 10 in a surprisingly low-scoring game. Davon Jefferson had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Trojans.
The betting total was well under 144, despite the overtime session.

No. 10 Tennessee 76, Chattanooga 70: Although they only shot 36 percent from the field, the Vols squeaked by their in-state rival. Chattanooga beat the spread, which was 16. Chris Lofton scored 16 points in the win.
