The last time the Michigan State Spartans opened Big Ten play with three straight wins it captured a national championship. Now it is a little early to tell if the Spartans are a national title contender, but they will look to continue their recent run of success in the conference home opener against Ohio State tonight.
There is still two months left in the regular season to determine the Spartans' overall chances, but they are playing well enough to stake their claim as an early favorite in the conference race.
A big reason for the Spartans' current winning stretch is getting senior Goran Suton back in the lineup after missing six games with a knee injury. Suton is averaging 11.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in five games since returning.
Michigan State has won 25 games in a row at the Breslin Center dating back to a loss to Ohio State on Feb. 3, 2007.
