After a long, boring offseason college football finally returned as flurries of schools from around the country kicked off their seasons on Saturday.

Included on the list of active teams yesterday were top-ranked Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma and Florida, all of whom disposed of their opponents with relative ease.

Fans looking for a more closely contested battle featuring one of the nation's elite programs got what they wished for in a Missouri, ranked sixth, versus Illinois match up - one the Tigers eventually would take 52-42.

Bad news for Mizzou came when wide receiver Jeremy Maclin left the contest midway through the fourth quarter. At the time of the injury Maclin had already scored twice, including a 99-yard kickoff return and a 45-yard punt return.

Also contributing to the Missouri cause was receiver Tommy Saunders who hooked up with quarterback Chase Daniels for two touchdowns.
