Your college football fix gets cured early this week, with East Carolina (4-3) and Memphis (2-5) meeting Tuesday night in a Conference USA game, with the Pirates -6 on Bodog’s college football odds.
This is your chance to watch ECU’s Dwayne Harris, one of the better under-the-radar players in the country. The junior has 1,108 all-purpose yards and a team-high eight touchdowns this season. Think of Harris as a Percy Harvin type, with Harris also lining up all over the field, including at QB in the Wildcat. He had a career-high 264 all-purpose yards the Pirates’ rout of Rice last week, catching two TD passes and retuning a 92-yard kickoff for a score, his second straight week bringing a kick back. It’s not clear if the Pirates will have leading rusher Dominique Lindsay, who hurt his left ankle against Rice.
Memphis is led by RB Curtis Steele, who has rushed for 380 combined yards in the past two games. He has scored rushing touchdowns in eight of his last 11 games. WR Duke Calhoun also is rolling, having exceeded 100 yards receiving in each of the past three games. He’s the only Memphis player ever to reach the century mark three games in a row – and has done it twice (also in 2007).
ECU has been good on the road against foes in its division, winning six of the past eight away from home against C-USA East teams. It has beaten Memphis the past three years (30-10 in 2008) and is 5-4 all-time there. You might want to go with the over on Bodog’s college football odds for this one. In the past six meetings, the winner of this game has scored 30 or more points five times. The losing team scored at least 24 in four of those.
