Last year, Georgia Tech rushed for 409 yards against Georgia, and that Jacket ground game was so dominant (the most rushing yards allowed by Georgia since 1944) that Tech only completed one pass and still put up 45 points in a 3-point win. The Jackets are 7-point favorites on Bodog’s college football odds to make it two in a row against their rivals Saturday.
The problem for Georgia is that its defense is much worse than last year and Tech’s offense is much better. The Yellow Jackets are second in the nation in rushing (up 41 yards per game from 2008), 12th in total offense, 11th in scoring (36.0) and set the ACC single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 41. Star RB Jonathan Dwyer has rushed for 485 yards and three TDs in the past three games, but the key guy is QB Josh Nesbitt.
Nesbitt has completed nine passes of more than 50 yards on only 125 attempts – teams are stacking the line, leaving big-play potential for Georgia Tech through the air occasionally. Georgia Tech runs on nearly 85 percent of its plays yet averages 24.4 yards per completion. Nesbitt, second on the team in rushing (847 yards, 16 TDs), has completed 58 of 125 attempts for 1,418 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception. All his numbers are better this year.
The Bulldog defense has been very iffy at times. It has forced only eight turnovers (one fumble recovered), while every other team in the country as at least 10. The defense is allowing more than 40 yards per game than last year.
When deciding your college football bet on this one, know that Georgia is 3-2 in true road games against Top-10 teams under coach Mark Richt, but 0-3 this season (0-3 ATS) overall against Top-10 teams.
