College Football Picks: Temple at Penn State

This is one of the very worst teams in the FBS, and it’s been that way for nearly 20 years. The Owls will almost certainly get thumped by Penn State this Saturday. The question is, by how many points?

There’s really nowhere to go but up for Temple. The defense has steadily improved in two years and change under coach Al Golden, who was the defensive coordinator at the University of Virginia before that. The offense is still a mess, but you can’t argue with the results so far: 3-0 ATS.

So perhaps the real question is, by how many points will Penn State (3-0 SU, 2-0 ATS) shut Temple out? In 2006, it was 47-0. In 2007, it was 31-0. The Nittany Lions covered both times. The Bodog Sportsbook has the latest NCAA college football odds on this matchup, and to see the minimum number of points PSU will have to score on the Owls to cover.

Penn State will teach Temple a lesson on Saturday.
That is, teams who hang in there after bitter defeats will eventually be rewarded with the kind of win that will shock the world.
It's a good lesson for Temple.
It's a better lesson for all of us.
