The last wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy was Michigan’s Desmond Howard in 1991. The most likely candidate for 2008 is Michael Crabtree (60 catches, 14 TDs) from pass-happy Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are 8-0 (3-2-1 ATS) and hanging tough in the Big 12, reason enough to put Crabtree on the college football honor roll with an A+.

Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant (51 catches, 11 TDs) is also in the Heisman picture, but he’s produced in bunches, while Crabtree has scored in every single game. Bryant gets an A and a pat on the back. So does Missouri’s Jeremy Maclin, who joins the Big 12 touchdown parade with seven majors on 58 receptions.

The Big East should get an overall F, but we’ll make an example out of West Virginia WR/RB Jock Sanders (23 catches, five TDs). That Bill Stewart hire just isn’t panning out in Morgantown.
