This morning, the Dodgers did the deed and landed a deal which gave them Cleveland Indians' infielder Casey Blake. The Phillies and Rays were the two runners-up to Los Angeles in the bidding on Casey Blake, with both teams making multiplayer offers, but Cleveland preferred the Dodgers' package — and informed all three teams of that decision Saturday morning. For this Dodgers, this trade allows for some flexibility, as Blake can play first base as well as in the outfield when needed.
Blake's hitting .289, 11 HR, 58 RBI. In return, the Indians get Carlos Santana, a catcher in the Class A California League where he has 14 homers and is hitting .323. Also acquired in the deal is AAA pitcher Jon Meloan, who has a reputation for strikeouts.
