Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko will fight Korean Giant Hong Man Choi on New Year's Eve.

Matchmakers for the Yarennoka mixed martial arts event scheduled for New Year's Eve in Tokyo have officially announced that top-ranked heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko (26-1-0) will fight 7-foot-2-inch, 350-pound Korean giant Hong-Man Choi (1-0-0).

Choi is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Jerome LeBanner (3-1-1) in a kickboxing match at the K-1 World Grand Prix on Dec. 8. Fedor has not fought since defeating Matt Lindland (20-5-0) at "Bodog Fight: Clash of the Nations", Apr. 14 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The match will be held using rules "similar" to mixed martial arts after Choi's manager requested special concessions. Officials have not given specific details regarding what changes both camps have agreed to.

The event also features a match between Pride tournament winner Kazuo Misaki (18-8-2) and Judo Olympian Yoshihiro Akiyama (10-1-0) as well as a fight pitting Japanese submission master Shinya Aoki (11-2-0) against 2-time K-1 Hero's tournament winner Gesias "JZ" Calvancante (14-1-1).
