the_minnesota_twins_logo.jpgMaking his first start in more than a month on Wednesday, Minnesota Twins rookie extraordinaire Francisco Liriano went two innings against Oakland before his season ended.

"The last two pitches I threw, I felt a pop and it really hurts," Liriano told the AP after throwing just 28 pitches.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire knows how much the loss will hurt his squad as it battles to make the playoffs.

"It's disappointing for our team because of how big he can be for you down the stretch," Gardenhire said to the AP. "But it's one of these situations where everybody is concerned about him. That's our biggest concern."

Liriano will finish 12-3 with a 2.19 ERA.

The Twins lead the White Sox by 1 1/2 games in the wild-card race and trail the Tigers by 1 1/2 in the AL Central.
