Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir (11-3-0) says he was surprised that Brock Lesnar (1-1-0) took him down immediately in their fight, Feb. 2 at UFC 81: Breaking Point.

"I really thought that he would have more fear of the jiu-jitsu game that I possess, and would choose to opt to stand on the feet and try to use his wrestling," Mir tells MMAweekly.com. "I mean let’s face it, I couldn’t take that guy down if I wanted to."

Instead, Lesnar dumped Mir to the mat in the opening seconds of the fight, and unleashed a brutal series of punches and hammerfists, some of which hit Mir on the back of the head, prompting referee Steve Mazagatti to re-start the fight with both athletes standing. Again, Lesnar shot in and took Mir to the mat.

"The only thing that surprised me was his quickness," Mir explains. "It’s hard to really think that when you see a guy who’s cutting down to 265 [pounds], there’s just no way this guy’s going to be that quick. You know what? He’s quick!"

Quickly after the second takedown, Mir locked on a tight kneebar submission that forced Lesnar to tap out, or suffer a broken leg. Now, Mir is wondering who he'll be facing next, and thinks a re-match with Tim Sylvia (24-4-0) might be a good choice.

"I can start fighting guys who are ranked and start improving my own standing, putting myself in title contingency," he explains. "Obviously, the Tim fight is always going to sell."
