Frank Shamrock will fight Cung Le on Mar. 29 at Strikeforce.

Mixed martial arts legend Frank Shamrock (22-8-1) has signed to fight his next opponent in Strikeforce.

On Mar. 29 in San Jose, Calif., Shamrock will defend his middleweight title against Cung Le (5-0-0) at the HP Pavillion in an event co-promoted by Elite XC and Strikeforce.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker thinks the pair will make for an explosive fight. "As a martial arts promoter for 25 years and as a promoter of both of these fighters, I've been watching the rivalry between Frank and Cung build for quite some time," he says. "So it's great to see this matchup finally come to fruition."

As usual, Shamrock is making wise-cracks about his opponent. "Being No. 2 isn't such a bad thing," he explains, "so Cung has nothing to be ashamed of, but there's a big difference between being No. 1 and No. 2. Le will find that out soon enough."

Undefeated in MMA, Le plans on keeping his record unblemished. "People have been wondering when I'd take the next step in the cage and fight an established superstar and world champion. Well, here it is. The fans are in for a great fight."

Le is coming off a win over Sam Morgan (18-9-0) on Nov. 16 at Strikeforce, while Shamrock has not fought since beating Phil Baroni (10-8-0) by choke hold in June at an Elite XC event.
