After a lengthy holdout, Jacksonville Jaguars first-round pick Derrick Harvey has signed a five-year contract that could be worth up to $30 million.
Harvey, the former Florida Gators standout, has been out of camp for 33 days while his agent and the Jags tried to reach a deal. Jacksonville had traded up to the No. 8 spot in this summer's past draft to get him – his 20.5 career sacks and winning the defensive MVP in the 2007 BCS title game made Harvey one of the premier defensive prospects available.
His base package in the Jacksonville contract will be $23.8 million over the five years. The key tradeoff that ended the holdout was the ability to get $6.2 million of incentives – including a Pro Bowl kicker that could max him out at a staggering $33.4 million.
