But she could not do it.

The fifth-seeded Jankovic instead lost to Sorana Cirstea of Romania 3-6, 6-0, 9-7 Monday in the fourth round.

Jankovic, a former top-ranked player who has yet to win a Grand Slam title, is the latest high-profile upset at this year’s French Open. She follows Ana Ivanovic and Venus Williams out of the tournament before the quarterfinal stage.

No such fate for Serena Williams. After struggling in two earlier matches that lasted three sets each, the second-seeded Williams reached the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 24 Aleksandra Wozniak.

Next up for Williams is a match against Svetlana Kuznetsova, who outlasted 12th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 Monday.

Williams, a -140 favorite, is 5-1 against Kuznetsova. Get your French Open betting with Bodog now.
