The legendary American masticator Joey Chestnut secured his place in competitive hamburger eating history on Sunday when he won the Krystal Square Off V World Hamburger Eating Championship. Chestnut downed 93 Krystal hamburgers in eight minutes, which was slightly less than the 103 he ate when he won last year's championship.

The competition was charged with anticipation of seeing the epic rivalry played out between Chestnut and the Japanese eating sensation Takeru Kobayashi. Kobayashi was quickly left in the crumbs of defeat as Chestnut gobbled himself into the lead early and maintained it to the finish.

Kobayashi had been the previous champion until he had to bow out due to a jaw injury last year.
