It appears as though what began as a promising season for the Indiana Hoosiers might end up in ruins.

The day after the No. 13 Hoosiers dropped a 68-66 decision to Wisconsin, reports have leaked that Kelvin Sampson is now on a game-to-game lifeline as coach at Indiana. The tenuous status came after the University learned that Sampson was hit with five major NCAA violations which Athletic Director Rick Greenspan called "profoundly disappointing."

The NCAA allegations stem from a series of phone-calls made to recruits while Sampson was still under recruiting restrictions. Sampson was previously scolded for doing the same thing while coaching at the University of Oklahoma. He then proceeded to pull a similar stunt at Indiana.

"It's regrettable, to say the least, that we are in this position, in regards to these allegations," Greenspan told the Associated Press during a late-afternoon news conference. "I personally and professionally am profoundly disappointed that there is even a hint of inappropriate behavior."

It's a black mark on the Indiana program, one which has had no major NCAA violations since 1960. The clean sheet is in large part due to the work of former coach Bobby Knight, known for running one of the cleanest programs in collegiate athletics.
